Yu Oda (1983) was born in Japan and started his musical career in a rock band. He studies music at the California State University, Northridge, and the Conservatoire of Amsterdam, with Wim Henderickx, Willem Jeths and Rafael Reina.
He worked as composer with ensembles such as Asko / Schonberg Ensemble, BL!NDMAN, Ensemble 10/10, Joint Venture Percussion Duo, Looptail, Amsterdam Collage Ensemble, koto-speler Makiko Goto, Cologne Gagaku Ensemble. His works were performed on a number if international festivals and was nominated for awards such as the Toonzetters (2012), Gaudeamus Prize (2011), he was finalist of the Henriette Bosmansprijs en Tera de Marez Oyensprijs (2011).
Besides his work as composr, Oda also founded two new music ensembles, Looptail and the Amsterdam Collage Ensemble.
The project The Cord Pulse is written for a live techno band: an innovative mix of instrumentalists and live-electronics. The ensemble explores new sounds which looks for the borders of acoustic and electronic music.
