Theo Jellema

Theo Jellema (1955) studied organ at the Prins Claus Conservatoire in Groningen in Wim van Beeks organ class and received his diploma in 1978. Besides his work as organ player of the Grote of Jacobijnerkerk te Leeuwarden and main subject teacher organ at the Prins Claus Conservatorium in Groningen and Zwolle/Arnhem Theo has played many concerts which took him all over Europe and Japan. Many ‘integrales’ drew special atention: in 1990 he played all organ works of César Franck (Martinikerk Franeker), in 1999 the complete organ repertoire of Olivier Messiaen (Grote Kerk Leeuwarden, Martinikerk and Sint Martinuskerk Sneek) en and in 2000 a Bach-integrale (Grote Kerk Leeuwarden). In the summer of 2003 he devoted himself to Vierne’s Pièces de Fantaisie (Martinikerk Franeker). Theo is a well known jury member at organ competitions. He made recordings at important historic organs and is a guide at organ tours.
For his work for the French organ culture he was awarded the silver “Arts-Sciences-Lettres”-medal.
