Maarten den Hengst
Maarten studied at the Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam with Mila Balawskaja and Jan Wijn, and at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna with Noel Flores. He took masterclasses with pianists such as Vladimir Viardo, Philip Entremont, Boris Berman, Igor Roma, Jaques Rouvier, Pascal Devoyon and Menahem Pressler.
Apart from his solo performances Maarten is very active as chamber musician. He performed in many ensembles, at venues and (inter)national festivals and toured to Germany, Belgium, Sri Lanka, Serbia, Georgia, Austria, Costa Rica, Portugal and Brittain. HE won various awards amongst which the Prinses Christina Concours, the YPF piano competition, the Vriendenkrans competition, the Grachtenfestival competition and the Tbilisi International Piano competition in Georgia. He worked with composers such as Willem Jeths, Hans Kox, Karl Fiorini, Genevieve Murphy, Diego Soifer and Marlijn Helder, and with conductors such as Jürgen Kussmaul, Jurjen Hempel, Loes Visser, Coen Stuit, Ernst van Tiel en Fokko Oldenhuis.
