Esther van Stralen

A very diverse career, in which Esther was a.o. solo viola player with the Residentie Orkest, the Sydney Symphony, the Radio Kamer Orkest and Amsterdam Sinfonietta, and besides that main subject teacher at conservatoires in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Essen, Sydney and Canberra, has resulted in a job as Professor for viola and chamber music in Bremen.
Esther has a focus on chamber music. She plays recitals and is part of the Trio Altro, with soprano Charlotte Margiono. She also played with the Italian Voces Intimae Pianotrio, which performs on original instruments. Earlier she played viola in the Dufy Quartet, the Australian Stringquartet, the Salzburger Solisten, Duo Double Dutch, Ensemble 24, the Nieuw Ensemble, the Mozart Quartet and she was a popular guest viola player at various ensembles, festivals and orchestras around the world.
Esther also performs as solo player, not long ago in Ecuador with Hindemith’s Schwanendreher; and with conductors such as Günther Herbig, Edo de Waart, Carlo Rizzi, Frans Brüggen, Marcello Viotti and Bruno Weil.
Esther received a lot of positive reviews on her recording of “Fantasies”: a collection of world premieres of pieces for 20th century viola and barock-viola. Esther is guest teacher at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen.
