Summer Academy
Individual lessons and masterclasses
The Summer Academy of the Peter the Great Festival takes place from July 25th - August 4th 2012. There are daily masterclasses for piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, horn and voice. Under the guidance of musicians, with established reputations both as teachers and performers, you will work on your technique and expression. You can apply for lessons with the teachers of your choice. Pianists are available to accompany the masterclasses and for individual practicing.
Chamber music
You can also register for chamber music lessons. Ensembles will be made out of all interested participants and you will be coached by chamber musicians of great expertise. You can also register with your own, existing ensemble.
Concerts
A series of chamber music concerts is connected to the Summer Academy. Participants of the Summer Academy can visit all the concerts for free. The teachers of the Summer Academy perform on these concerts. You can also perform on concerts yourself: there are daily lunch concerts where you have the opportunity to perform, both individually and with an ensemble.
Specials: Participatory concert, chamber opera, Peter the Great String Orchestra, lied accompaniment lessons, workshops
1. Participants of the Summer Academy will be selected to give a participatory concert at which ensembles consisting of students and teachers will perform. This is only for pianists and string instrumentalists. The teachers of the festival decide which participants will be selected for this. The following repertoire is selected for this concert:
- Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano trio op. 1 no. 1 in Es
- Johannes Brahms - String sextet no. 1 op. 18 in Bes
- Antonín Dvorák - Piano quintet op. 81 in A
The organization of the festival will compose quartets of the individual registrations.
2. Vocal participants can register for the opera L'Heure Espagnole by Maurice Ravel. This will be performed during the festival.
3. String instrumentalists can register for the first “Peter the Great Festival String Orchestra” with Ilona Sie Dhian Ho. Besides the lessons and rehearsals the orchestra will also perform on one of the concerts. The orchestra will play the Four Seasons by Vivaldi.
4. Pianists can register for the lied accompaniment lessons by Eelko Moolenaar
5. Three workshops are organized:
- Workshop Creative Music, aiming at collaborative composing of a piece of music.
- Workshop 'Musicians as Actors', aiming at performance and communication skills.
- Workshop Peak Performance & Reducing Stage Fright, about how to handle stage fright using the Heartmath method.
You can register for more than one special or workshop.
