The life of Shostakovich hardly needs introduction. Many know his sad story. His struggles with Stalins regime and many personal misfortunes have branded his life. The great emphasis on his tragedies have sometimes obstructed an objective view on his music. When we try to do this we'll see that Shostakovich is one of the greatest artist of the 20th century. His string quartets and the piano quintet still have an overwhelming power. The Hermitage Quartet and Nata Tsvereli, who in earlier editions of the festival have presented the quintets of Franck and Weinberg, will once again drag you into Shostakovich dramatic world.

Preceeding the concert there is a diner at restaurant Bitter en Zoet. This package starts at 17.30 hrs.
