Bedrich Smetana (1824-1884) and Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904) were the most important and influental Czech composers of the 19th century. Smetana was the first composer who wrote music with a specific Czech character with his recognisable use of Bohemian folk melodies and dance rhythms. He was a great influence on Dvorak and the latter also integrated traditional folk music in his compositions. In this program you will hear the tempestuous and youthful Piano Trio by Smetana and one of Dvoraks masterpieces, the 3rd String Quintet.
