In 1998 one of the programs of the Peter de Grote Festival was programmed with music of César Franck. This Belgian/French composer was one of the main influencesin the musical developments in France in the second half of the 19th century. His postromantic style with beautiful polyphonous harmonies was well shown in his symphonies and chamber music. THis influenced composers such as Dukas, Duparc and Chausson in such a way that it revelled chamber music and symphonic repertoire, and it casted opera to the background. Debussy and Ravel were also influenced by Franck. In this program you will hear his three most famous piano and chamber music compositions.
