Rian de Waal completed his studies cum laude with Edith Grosz Lateiner at the Conservatorium of Amsterdam. Following this he had lessons with Rudolf Serkin and Leon Fisher. He performs frequently as a soloist in recitals or on tour with orchestra, recently performing Grieg's piano concerto with the Anima Eterna Symphony Orchestra in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Norway (Bergen festival). Rian de Waal is the founder and artistic director of the Rhijnauwen chamber music festival, and has close bonds with festivals in the USA, Canada and Japan. He is also the artistic director of the 2008 Peter the Great Festival.
