Ivan Penkov



Born in Bulgaria, Ivan studies in The Netherlands for a number of years, at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen with Paul Komen. He regularly gives recitals in The Netherlands.
Ivan's carreer started in Pleven in Bulgaria where he joined the piano class of Antoaneta Vodenicharova at the National School for the Arts at the age of six. At the age of eleven he performed with the Pleven Symphony Orchestra, with a piano concerto of Haydn. He would play at numerous concerts with this orchestra.
In 1998 and 2003 Ivan recorded for the Bulgarian National Radio. In this period Ivan took aprt in various masterclasses with, amongst others, Vladimir Tropp, Elena Richter, Charles Rosen, Igor Roma and Rian de Waal. Ivan was awarded various prizes: The first prize at the Competition of Stara Zagora (2002), and in 2007 and 2008 he was awarded by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture. In 2008 he won the Klaas Dijkstra Award at the Peter the Great Festival, which allowed him to finish his studies in Groningen. In 2011 Ivan reached the semi finals of the Franz Liszt International Piano Competition. Ivan currently studies at the masters program of the Conservatoire in Amsterdam.
